Last one, I promise: light pollution is the big problem in the city. Any recommendations for darker spots within half an hour of Bristol that are safe for kids at night?

Thinking of making this a monthly evening for the neighbourhood. Is anyone around Bristol happy to bring a telescope along one night and explain what we're seeing? Tea and cake guaranteed.

Question for the experts: is there a good free app for working out what you're looking at? Half our group kept asking me whether something was a planet and I had absolutely no idea.

First post in here, so hello! Last week I took a group of families from our street up to the hill for the end of the Perseids. Total beginners, no telescope, just blankets and flasks of hot chocolate.

We counted eleven meteors, and the kids are already asking when we're going again.
